Charlie Sweeney is convicted of manslaughter in San Francisco, California.

 

 

On November 1, 1894 — San Francisco, California, Charlie Sweeney the ex-base-hall player, who, years ago, made a phenomenal record as a pitcher in the Providence Grays club, and who after wards played as a stars in St. Louis and Cincinnati teams, was convicted of manslaughter today, and will be sentenced to a term in the State Prison. Several months ago, Sweeney shot and killed “Conman” McManus, during a drunken row in a saloon.
