The Detroit Tigers turn a triple play against the Boston Red Sox for the second day in a row

On June 7 1908 — At Bennett Park the Detroit Tigers turn a triple play against the Boston Red Sox for the second day in a row, but Boston wins, 9 – 5. The two tri-killings in two games is a unique major league record. The triple play was recorded by –  Germany Schaefer – Sam Crawford – Ira Thomas.

Heinie Wagner hit to Schaefer. He tagged Denny Sullivan on the line for the first out. He threw to Crawford, getting Wagner for the second out and making it a double play. Gavvy Cravath scored while this was going on, and Bob Unglaub tried to follow him home. Crawford threw to the plate, Thomas tagged Unglaub as he slid, and it was a triple play.
