On February 11 1950 — 1950 – Hall of Fame outfielder Hazen (Kiki) Cuyler dies in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the age of 50. Considered an outstanding defensive player and baserunner, Cuyler was a .321 hitter with 2,299 hits and 328 stolen bases during an 18-year career. At the time of his death, Cuyler was serving as a coach for the Boston Red Sox.
En route to his 11th victory when the Giants beat the Cubs at Wrigley Field, 9-4, Livan Hernandez goes 4-for-4, including a home run. The Cuban right-hander has collected eight consecutive hits, enjoying a 3-for-3 performance against the Phillies on August 5 and going 2-for-3 against the Pirates on the last day in July.

2016 – In the first World Series game played at Wrigley Field in 71 years, the Indians eke out a 1 – 0 victory over the Cubs in Game 3 of the 2016 World Series. Pinch-runner Michael Martinez scores the only run in the 7th when he is driven in from third base by pinch-hitter Coco Crisp’s single. Cody Allen ends the game by striking out Ben Zobrist with two runners in scoring position.

Recently-acquired outfielder Richard Hidalgo establishes a club record homering in five straight games for the Mets. In 16 games with New York, the former Astro has eight home runs compared to just four he hit with Houston in 56 games.

1970 – Fergie Jenkins homers and his teammates add another six as Chicago coasts over San Diego, 12 – 2. Jim Hickman (2), Glenn Beckert, Johnny Callison, Joe Pepitone, and Billy Williams also hit round trippers for Chicago. Six of the Cub homers are solo shots and San Diego adds a solo homer: the seven solo homers by two teams sets a National League record and ties the major league mark set on April 29, 1962.
