On January 31 1983 – Veteran first baseman Tony Perez signs a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies for $225K. Perez will help lead the Phillies to the World Series where they were known as the Whiz Kids. Perez hits 6 homeruns and drives in 41 during the season.
