On March 12, 2009 — 2009 – Cuba tosses aside Mexico, 16 – 4, in the World Baseball Classic. It is the 4th straight Mexican game in which one team scores at least 14 runs. Yulieski Gourriel drives in 4 and Frederich Cepeda and Michel Enríquez each drive in three, while Yoennis Céspedes scores three. Francisco Campos takes the loss one year after his star turn in the 2008 Olympic qualifier.
