On July 3, 1973 — After waiting three hours to begin the game due to rain, the Reds beat San Francisco at Riverfront Stadium, 6-3. Joe Morgan goes 3-4, Tony Perez and Bobby Tolan homers for the Reds. Jack Billingham picks up his 11th win.

At the end of the contest, the Cincinnati fans are treated to the nation’s earliest Independence Day celebration, when the team begins launching fireworks at two o’clock in the morning.
