Andre Dawson gets his 2,000th career hit in the Cubs’ 6 – 5 loss to Houston

 

On August 18, 1989 — At the Astrodome, Andre Dawson gets his 2,000th career hit, a second-inning single off Jim Clancy. On the day, Dawson was 3-for-4 with 2 singles, a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.  But the Cubs’ lose 6 – 5.  Rafael Ramirez gets a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Cubs, 6-5. Glenn Davis scores after doubling home Bill Doran. Davis had homered the inning before. Dave Smith is the surprise winner. Billy Hatcher is traded to Pittsburgh for outfielder Glenn Wilson.
