On August 28, 1996, the Atlanta Braves acquire 14-game winner Denny Neagle from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a pair of minor leaguers – first baseman Ron Wright and outfielder Corey Pointer – and a player to be named later, who turns out to be pitcher Jason Schmidt. Neagle will win 20 games for the Braves in 1997, and 16 more in 1998.
