Babe Ruth becomes the first major leaguer to hit 600 career home runs 

On August 21, 1931 — At Sportsman’s Park III, Babe Ruth becomes the first major leaguer to hit 600 career home runs when the New York Yankees defeat the St. Louis Browns, 11-7. The 36 year-old slugger hit the milestone round-tripper off right-hander George Blaeholder.

Rogers Hornsby had the second most career home runs at the time with 293.
