On November 29, 1941 Bill Freehan was born in Detroit, MI.

 

Playing his entire career with the Detroit Tigers, he was one of the best catchers of his era (arguably the best catcher in the 1960s). He was a 11X All-Star, won 5 Gold Glove Awards, and was a key member of the 1968 World Series champion Tigers (25 HR, 84 RBI, .366 OBP – finishing runner-up to the AL MVP Award in ’68). Defensively, he led AL catchers in putouts 6X and fielding pct. 3X.

 

In his stellar 15-year career (1961, 1963-1976), Bill had 1591 hits, 200 HR, 758 RBI, .262 BA, .340 OBP, .412 Slg., & .752 OPS.
