California Angels pitcher Bruce Kison losses no hitter with one out in the 9th for the second time this season

 

 

On April 23, 1980 — California Angels pitcher Bruce Kison settles for a one-hitter when Ken Landreaux of the Minnesota Twins hits a double with one out in the 9th inning. California wins, 17 – 0. It is the second time in a year that Kison has lost a no-hitter with one out in the 9th. For Landreaux, the hit marks the beginning of a 31-game hitting streak.

“It was the only bad pitch he threw all afternoon” said California Angels’ catcher Tom Donahue.

”I tried to get Landreaux out on a slider” said Kison “It got up and away” Kison a right-hander formerly with Pittsburgh Pirates until he signed a free agent contract with the Angels for $24 million during the off-season posted his first American League victory with a sparkling shutout performance.
