On July 17, 1936 Carl Hubbell starts his 24-game winning streak, beating Pittsburgh, 6 – 0. The Giants hit a National League record-tying four triples in the 1st inning: Jo-Jo Moore, Mel Ott and Hank Leiber hit them in succession, and Eddie Mayo adds one later in the inning to equal the major league record.  Carl Hubbell’s 24-game winning streak, spanning over two seasons, ‘King Karl’ will not be defeated until Memorial Day next season.
