On May 14, 1978, Dave Kingman of the Chicago Cubs hits three home runs, including a game-winning three-run blast in the 15th inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game marks the second time in his career that “King Kong” has hit three homers and driven in eight runs in a game at Dodger Stadium. Tommy Lasorda gives a colorful interview after the game.

On November 21, 2000 — Citing statistics to a U.S. Senate panel, Commissioner Bud Selig states it is time for “sweeping changes” in the game’s economic make-up, raising the possibility of a work stoppage after the current contract expires on October 31, 2001.
