March 28th Highlights

Day 3 is in the books,  here are some exciting moments from today’s games:

Blake Snell hurled 7 scoreless frames with 9 K’s to lead the Rays over the Pirates 9-2

Matt Chapman (2-5, HR, 3 RBI’s) and Ramon Laureano (3 DO, 4 RBI’s) led the A’s explosive win over the Twins 15-5

The Marlins used some small ball in a walkoff win over the Phillies 5-4 in 10. Jonathan Villar walked and was sac bunted over by Miguel Rojas setting the stage for Jesus Aguilar’s walk off single

Yordan Alvarez 2 homers and 5 RBI’s led Houston over the Angels 10-2

David Price threw 7 innings of no run ball with 10 K’s to lead the Dodgers to a 6-0 shutout win over the Giants.

Back to back doubles in the 10th by Freddy Galvis and Tucker Barnhart led the Reds to a walkoff 6-5 win over the Cardinals

Masahiro Tanaka  pitched 6 strong and Gio Urshela was 2-4 with a homer and 4 RBI’s to lead the Yankees to their first win of the season over the Orioles 8-2

Eloy Jimenez hit 2 bombs in a losing effort as the White Sox fell to the Royals 9-5

Niko Goodrum was all Detroit needs going 2-4 with a homer and drove in all 4 runs to lead the Tigers over the Indians 4-3

The Red Sox stay hot winning their 3rd straight!

 

After 3 days the A’s, Rangers, Red Sox and Dodgers are all 3-0! The Nationals and Royals are 2-0.

 

 

1:10 PM: DET @ CLE

Shortstop Niko Goodrum lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI at
Progressive Field where the Detroit club beat the Cleveland ballclub by the
score of 4 to 3.
 
Detroit scored 2 runs in the decisive top of the 2nd inning with the help of 3
hits.  After an out was recorded, Jeimer Candelario started the rally when he
lined a one-base hit.  Grayson Greiner stepped up next and he drew a walk.
Jacoby Jones then laced a base-knock to load the bases.  Cameron Maybin
followed and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Goodrum came to the plate and
delivered a base-hit scoring two baserunners.  That was all Jordan
Zimmermann(1-0) needed.  After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to
score.  
 
Joe Jimenez preserved the game for Zimmermann, recording his his 1st save.
Adam Plutko(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He surrendered 4 runs and 4 hits in
4 innings.

2:10 PM: KC @ CHW

At Guaranteed Rate Fld the Kansas City club easily handled the Chicago (AL)
team by the score of 9 to 5.
 
Chicago (AL) was unable to climb back into it after Kansas City went ahead for
good in the 2nd inning scoring a single run.  Hunter Dozier drew a walk.
After an out was recorded, Salvador Perez came to bat and slapped a base-hit.
Maikel Franco then hit a deep fly scoring the run.  Kansas City won despite
being out-hit by Chicago (AL) 13 hits to 8.  
 
Brad Keller(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Ian Kennedy gained credit for his 2nd save.  The loss was charged to Dallas
Keuchel(0-1).  Kansas City knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 6 runs in
4 innings.  

2:10 PM: STL @ CIN

The Cincinnati team nipped the St. Louis team in 10 innings 6 to 5 at Great
American Bpk in a hard fought contest.
 
The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  Cincinnati was victorious in
the 10th inning.  After two outs Freddy Galvis doubled.  Tucker Barnhart
followed next and he doubled resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and
a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Cincinnati had a total
of 12 hits for the game.  
 
Michael Lorenzen(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Daniel
Ponce De Leon(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 hits and no
walks in 2/3 of an inning.  

3:07 PM: BOS @ TOR

WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Mitch Moreland robbed Danny Jansen of a base hit.
 
In a good matchup it was the Boston ballclub 7, the Toronto ballclub 4 at
Rogers Centre.
 
Boston drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.  Boston totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The victory went to Ryan Brasier(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Josh Taylor earned his 1st save.  Tanner Roark(0-1) was charged with
the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.  

3:10 PM: PIT @ TB

Hunter Renfroe slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Tampa Bay team beat the
Pittsburgh club by a score of 9 to 2.
 
Pittsburgh was unable to recover after Tampa Bay went ahead in the 4th inning
when they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by
Renfroe who electrified Tropicana Field when he popped a two-run clout over
the fence.  Tampa Bay out-hit Pittsburgh for the game, 13 hits to 8.  
 
Blake Snell(1-0) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Joe
Musgrove(0-1) suffered the loss.  He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 7 hits
and no walks.

4:05 PM: NYY @ BAL

Third baseman Gio Urshela hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI as the New York
(AL) team defeated the Baltimore team by a score of 8 to 2 at Camden
Yards.
 
Baltimore never recovered after New York (AL) took the lead in the 5th inning
when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits.  The key offensive moment was provided by
Miguel Andujar who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he
doubled which was good for two runs.  New York (AL) finished with 13 hits
while Baltimore ended up with 10.  
 
The victory was credited to Masahiro Tanaka(1-0) who went 6 innings, allowing
1 run. Alex Cobb(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 7 hits
and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.  

4:05 PM: WAS @ NYM

Stephen Strasburg came through with a solid 7 innings and Yan Gomes homered
and had 2 RBI at Citi Field as the Washington club beat the New York (NL)
team 5 to 1.
 
In the 2nd inning Washington scored 2 runs when they came up with 3 base hits.
That scoring would be all that was needed.  New York (NL) was out-hit by
Washington, 10 hits to 6.  
 
Strasburg(1-0) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the win. Marcus
Stroman(0-1) suffered the loss.  He allowed 3 runs and 8 hits in 5 innings

4:07 PM: MIN @ OAK

In a lop-sided win the Oakland ballclub ripped the Minnesota team by a 15 to 5
count.
 
Matt Chapman made sure the Oakland fans enjoyed themselves.  He doubled in the
7th inning and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning.  Oakland kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 8th inning with 7 runs on 6 hits.  Oakland out-hit
Minnesota for the game, 16 hits to 6.  
 
The victory went to Lou Trivino(1-0) who went 2/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Tyler Clippard(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.

6:10 PM: PHI @ MIA

The Miami club nipped the Philadelphia club in 12 innings 5 to 4 at Marlins
Park in a hard fought contest.
 
The score was tied at 4 after nine.  Miami ended up winning it in the 12th
inning.  Jonathan Villar drew a walk.  Miguel Rojas came to the plate and
laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Corey Dickerson got his chance to keep things
going, but he went down on strikes.  Jesus Aguilar was up next and he ripped
a one-base hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for Miami and the 13,172
home town fans in attendance.  Miami had a total of 11 hits for the game.
 
Elieser Hernandez(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning.
The losing pitcher was Francisco Liriano(0-1) in relief.  He allowed 1 run
and 1 hit in 1 and 2/3 innings.

7:10 PM: CHC @ MIL

At Miller Park the Chicago (NL) ballclub outdistanced the Milwaukee team by a
final score of 7 to 3.
 
Jon Lester(1-0) struggled but was good enough to win with the help of some
fine defensive plays.  He gave up 3 runs in 5 innings.  Despite losing,
Milwaukee out-hit Chicago (NL) 10 to 7.  
 
Adrian Houser(0-1) suffered the loss.  He allowed Chicago (NL) 5 runs in 4
innings of work.

7:10 PM: LAA @ HOU

WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Brian Goodwin robbed Michael Brantley of a Homerun!
          Top 5th: Yuli Gurriel robbed Shohei Ohtani of a base hit.
          Bot 6th: Tommy La Stella robbed Yordan Alvarez of a base hit.
 
Left fielder Yordan Alvarez slammed 2 homeruns at Minute Maid Park where the
Houston ballclub beat the Los Angeles(AL) ballclub 10 to 2.
 
Alvarez had a big evening at the plate.  He ripped a solo home run in the 4th
inning and brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer in
the 7th inning.  Houston finished with 8 hits in the victory.  
 
The win went to Lance McCullers(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings. Dylan
Bundy(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He allowed 4 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.
 

8:10 PM: ATL @ ARI

Left fielder David Peralta had 3 base hits at Chase Field as the Arizona
ballclub beat the Atlanta club by the count of 8 to 4.
 
Arizona claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 5 runs on 6
base hits.  That early scoring held up.  Arizona finished with 15 hits while
Atlanta ended up with 6.  
 
Robbie Ray(1-0) went 5 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. The losing
pitcher was Mike Foltynewicz(0-1).  He was knocked around pretty good, giving
up 5 runs in 4 innings.  

8:40 PM: COL @ SD

Fernando Tatis Jr had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at PETCO Park as the San Diego
club beat the Colorado team by the count of 9 to 5.
 
Colorado was unable to climb back into it after San Diego went ahead for good
in the 2nd inning scoring a single run using 2 hits.  San Diego had 11 hits
for the night.  
 
The win went to Zach Davies(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Kyle
Freeland(0-1) was the loser.  He allowed San Diego 6 runs in 4 innings of
work.  

9:10 PM: SF @ LAD

David Price mowed down 10 San Francisco batters as the Los Angeles(NL) club
outscored the San Francisco club 6 to 0.
 
Pedro Baez(1-0) was dominant in relief.  He did not allow a hit or a walk in
his 1 inning.  Overall Los Angeles(NL) out-hit San Francisco 10 to 6.  
 
Tony Watson(0-1) took the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning
allowing 4 hits and no walks.
 

9:10 PM: TEX @ SEA
Nick Solak lofted one into the ‘cheap seats’ as the Texas ballclub staged a
dramatic comeback over the Seattle club by a score of 4 to 3 at T-Mobile
Park.

Texas erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 4 base hits. Solak initiated the scoring when he blasted a solo
shot. Isiah Kiner-Falefa followed next and he doubled. Rougned Odor then
doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Texas had 10 hits for the
night.

Joely Rodriguez(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Jose
Leclerc earned the save, his 2nd. Matt Magill(0-1) took the loss in relief.
He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 4 hits and no walks.

‘The only way this one could have been better’, said Rodriguez, ‘was if we had
played it at home.’
