Don Newcombe misses pitching complete games in both games of a doubleheader for the Brooklyn Dodgers

On September 6, 1950 — At Shibe Park, in a desprate move, Brooklyn Manager Burt Shotton starts Don Newcombe in both games of a double header. He misses pitching complete games in a in both games of doubleheader for the Brooklyn Dodgers by leaving in the 7th inning of the second game, trailing Curt Simmons and the Philadelphia Phillies, 2 – 0. The Dodgers will come back and win 3-2, Gil Hodges delivers the key hit a basesloaded single with 2 outs that scored all three runs. The game will be the last game Simmons pitches before heading to the Korean War.

Newcombe won the first game, 2 – 0.
