On July 29, 1983 — Due to a dislocated thumb suffered in a collision at home plate in an attempt to score in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta, Padres first baseman Steve Garvey’s consecutive game streak ends in the nightcap at 1,207. It is the third-longest span in major league history without missing a game.
