Eddie Murray of the Baltimore Orioles hits his 500th career home run

On September 6, 1996, Eddie Murray of the Baltimore Orioles becomes the 15th player in major league history to hit 500 home runs. Murray homers off Felipe Lira in the 7th inning of the Orioles’ 5 – 4, 12-inning loss to Detroit at Camden Yards. Murray also joins Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as the only big leaguers to reach this milestone and also have at least 3,000 hits.
