He was one of the better relievers from the early 1960s – early 1970s. Fred led the NL in saves in 1969 (the first year it became an official statistic).

 

In his 13-year career (1961-73), Gladding had 109 saves & 3.13 ERA in 450 games.

 

Fred passed away in 2015 at the age of 78.
