On November 24, 1976, future Hall of Famer Joe Morgan of the Cincinnati Reds wins his second consecutive National League MVP Award. Morgan, who beats out teammate George Foster in the balloting, led the NL in slugging percentage and scored 113 runs.
Behind Steve Blass’s complete-game four-hitter, the Pirates beat Mike Cuellar and the heavily favored Orioles to capture their fourth world championship in franchise history. Immediately after the Game 7 victory, rookie hurler Bruce Kison and his champagne-soaked best man Bob Moose are whisked away from Memorial Stadium by helicopter to a waiting Lear Jet to attend the 21 year-old’s 6:30 pm wedding in Pittsburgh, in which the groom will arrive 33 minutes late.

The pitching-poor Rangers trade backup backstop Doug Mirabelli to the Red Sox for Double-A Trenton right-handed pitcher Justin Duchscherer (6-3, 2.44). Mirabelli will help fill the void created last week when Boston’s starting catcher Jason Varitek broke his right elbow.
