May 15, 1953 Future Hall of Famer George Brett is born, in Glen Dale West Virginia.

Playing his entire career with the Kansas City Royals, he is one of the best third basemen in MLB history. Brett was one of the most exciting players starting in the mid-1970s and was one of the best clutch hitters of his era. He remains the only player to win a batting title in 3 different decades (1976, 1980, 1990). He hit an incredible .390 in 1980 (the highest BA in 39 years – Ted Williams’ .406 BA in 1941). George had one of his best seasons in 1985 (30 HR, 112 RBI, .335 BA), finishing runner-up (to New York Yankees 1B Don Mattingly) for the AL MVP Award, leading the Royals to their first World Series title. He was a 13X All-Star, won the AL MVP Award in 1980, was the ALCS MVP in 1985, and won a Gold Glove in 1985, His uniform #5 is retired by the Royals. Brett was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999 (98.2% on the 1st ballot – the 4th highest percentage at that time).

In his 21-year career (1973-1993), George had 3,154 hits, 665 doubles (6th all-time), 137 triples, 317 HR, 1,596 RBI, 1,583 runs, 201 SB, .305 BA, .369 OBP, .487 Slg., & .857 OPS.
