George Foster released

September 7, 1986 The Chicago White Sox release George Foster and his career is over. Foster had been released himself to make room on the roster for former Met All-Star Lee Mazzilli. George’s release coincided with his comments claiming that his loss of playing time in 1986 was racially motivated, despite the fact he had been replaced in the lineup by another African-American, Kevin Mitchell. He finished playing 15 games for the White Sox going 11-52 with 1 homerun.

He finishes with 348 homers, 1,239 RBI, an MVP Award, and two rings.
