On August 18, 1909 — Giants player-coach Arlie Latham steals second base in the Giants’ 14 – 1 laugher over the Phillies. At 50, and 5 months, he is the oldest player to swipe a base. New York Giants manager John McGraw also names Latham as a coach. Latham becomes the first full-time coach in major league history.
