On December 7, 1947 -Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench is born in Oklahoma City, OK.

Considered by many to be the greatest catcher in MLB history, he played his entire career with the Cincinnati Reds. He won the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1968, 2 NL MVP Awards (1970, 1972), and the World Series MVP Award in 1976. He was also a 14X All-Star, won 10 Gold Glove Awards, and was a key member of the Big Red Machine‘s 2 World Series titles in 1975-76. His uniform #5 is retired by the Reds. Bench was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989 (96.4% on the 1st ballot).
In his 17-year career (1967-1983), Johnny had 2048 hits, 389 HR, 1376 RBI, .267 BA, .342 OBP, .476 Slg., & .817 OPS.
