Houston Astros acquire Eddie Mathews from the Atlanta Braves in 5 player trade

On December 31, 1966, On New Year’s Eve, the Houston Astros acquire Eddie Mathews from the Atlanta Braves as part of a five-player trade. A member of the Braves since 1952, The future Hall of Fame third baseman is the only person to play for the Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves.

Mathews hit 16 home runs in his final season with Atlanta and play for them for just 4 months and get traded to Detroit and play for the tigers for the balance of the season and was a part of the 1968 Championship team.

As part of the deal, the Astros also acquire infielder Sandy Alomar and pitcher Arnie Umbach in exchange for outfielder Dave Nicholson and pitcher Bob Bruce.
