On May 14, 1978, Dave Kingman of the Chicago Cubs hits three home runs, including a game-winning three-run blast in the 15th inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The game marks the second time in his career that “King Kong” has hit three homers and driven in eight runs in a game at Dodger Stadium. Tommy Lasorda gives a colorful interview after the game.

In MemoriamTommy Lasorda (1927-2021) Hall of Fame manager of the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996. Led the Dodgers to four National League pennants and two World Series wins. Two-time Manager of the Year. Managed U.S.A. Olympic Baseball to a gold medal in 2000. Spent more than seventy years active in the Dodgers organization as a player, scout, manager, and in the front office.

On May 11, 1946 — In front of the largest crowd in 13 years, the New York Giants defeat the Boston Braves, 5 – 1, in the first night game played at Braves Field. The 35,407 fans are surprised as their hometown heroes enter the field wearing shiny satin uniforms designed to reflect the light generated by the electricity used for the evening contest.

Johnny Mize goes 2-3 with 2 RBI’s for the Giants, Monty Kennedy pitches a complete game for the Giants and Johnny Sain takes the loss for the Braves.
