On July 17, 1908 At Exposition Park It is Honus Wagner Day in Pittsburgh, as players from both teams line up to pay homage and gather around home plate. Wagner’s tribute was originally scheduled for the 16th, but Honus asked that it be moved a day so it does not conflict with the annual benefit picnic for orphans. Wagner is presented with a $700 gold watch, a charm from the local VFW and Rooster that according to the boy that gave it to him, “Can lick Anything.” Wagner was thankful and said the watch was the finest anyone at ever built or seen before. The $700 came from fans/subscribers who gave $1 each for the prize.

Pittsburgh however would not have a good day losing to the Boston Doves 4-0, the game officially only went 7 innings, as it was stopped by a dust storm in the 8th, the Doves had scored several more runs during the inning, but the score reverted to the score at the end of the last full inning.
