On September 7, 2014 — Japan beats the USA, 3 – 0, in the Gold Medal game of the 2014 Women’s Baseball World Cup. It is Japan’s fourth consecutive Women’s Baseball World Cup Gold and second straight over the two-time champion US. Ayami Sato scatters seven hits to beat Sarah Hudek, who gives up four hits but walks four to Sato’s zero and is hampered by two US errors that lead to two unearned runs. Hudek tries to help her own cause with two singles. Sato is named the MVP of the Cup.
