On July 4,1984 Jim Rice caps a 5 for 6 day with a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Boston a 13 – 9 win over Oakland.

Rice belted a grand-slam homer with one out in the 10th inning, for the walk off 13-9 victory.

Dave Kingman had a two-run homer, his 23rd homer of the season, and Rickey Henderson stole two bases for Oakland.

Rice, who had four consecutive singles before striking out against reliever Gorman Heimuller in the eighth, got even with the Oakland left-hander by drilling a 2-1 pitch into the Boston bulpen in right- center for his 15th homer of the season and the fourth grand slam of his career. The slam gave Rice six runs batted in for the game.

Marty Barrett opened the 10th with a single and Glenn Hoffman was safe at first on second base- man Joe Morgan’s error on a throw from Heimuller. A sacrifice by Boggs moved the runners up and Dwight Evans was walked intentionally to load the bases for@ET-DC@eyJkeW5hbWljIjp0cnVlLCJjb250ZW50IjoicG9zdF90YWdzIiwic2V0dGluZ3MiOnsiYmVmb3JlIjoiTGVhcm4gTW9yZSBhYm91dCB0aGUgdGVhbXMsIHBsYXllcnMsIGJhbGwgcGFya3MgYW5kIGV2ZW50cyB0aGF0IGhhcHBlbmVkIG9uIHRoaXMgZGF0ZSBpbiBoaXN0b3J5IGp1c3QgY2xpY2sgdGhlIHRhZ3MhICAiLCJhZnRlciI6IiIsImxpbmtfdG9fdGVybV9wYWdlIjoib24iLCJzZXBhcmF0b3IiOiIgfCAiLCJjYXRlZ29yeV90eXBlIjoicG9zdF90YWcifX0=@
