Buffalo Bisons sweeps Chicago White Stockings to pull within 3½ games

On July 20, 1881 – The Buffalo Bisons finish off a sweep of the first-place Chicago White Stockings to pull within 3½ games of Chicago.

The pride of Chicago went down again this afternoon before 2500 enthusiastic spectators. The Bisons won the game at the start by free hitting and error. They then gave as miserable an exhibition of fielding as we ever seen, allowing the visitor to score up and go to the front, and wound up by winning in a run in brilliant manner when the winning run scored when none were out and the base were full. Several wonderful catches were made by the outfielder, shutting the White Stockings out of several runs.

Jack Lynch picks up the win for Buffalo.
