Kansas City Royals coach Tom Gamboa is attacked by two fans

On September 19, 2002, Kansas City Royals coach Tom Gamboa is attacked by two fans while he stand sin the first base coaches box at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The drunken fans, a father-son duo, charged onto the field from the lower deck stands behind first base and tackled the unsuspecting Gamboa, who was knocked to the ground. “I felt like a football team had hit me from behind. Next thing I knew, I’m on the ground trying to defend myself,” Gamboa said. “It just happened so fast.”  He suffers several minor cuts, and the father, William Ligue, Jr., and son pair are arrested and charged with assault.
