July 25, 1967

The White Sox become the second major league team in history to win a doubleheader with two walk-off homers when they sweep the Indians, 3-1 and 6-5, thanks to game-ending home runs by J.C. Martin and Ken Berry. In 1962, the Mets were the first team to accomplish the feat, with Hobie Landrith and Gil Hodges going deep, respectively, in the bottom of the ninth inning of each game to give the team its first twin bill sweep in franchise history.

August 27, 1967

1967 – In a critical game with the White Sox, Boston RF Jose Tartabull makes a great throw home in the 9th to Elston Howard to nail Ken Berry trying to score from third base. Boston wins, 4 – 3 behind two homers by Carl Yastrzemski.

November 30, 1970

The White Sox trade OF Ken Berry to the Angels for OF Jay Johnstone in a six-player deal. The White Sox also make a rare trade with the Cubs when they send OF Jose Ortiz and infielder Ossie Blanco to the North side for pitchers Pat Jacquez and Dave Lemonds.

July 1, 1972

Nolan Ryan allows five hits and strikes out 16 in pitching the Angels to a 5 – 3 victory over the Athletics. Ryan has a RBI single and is helped by homers from Ken Berry and Leo Cardenas, off Steve Hamilton.

Biography

An extraordinary outfielder, Berry won two Gold Gloves. Leaping catches above the Comiskey Park fence became his trademark. An All-Star with the White Sox in 1967 when he had a 20-game hitting streak, Berry batted over .280 only twice, in 1972 and ’73 with the Angels. From September 16, 1971 through July 27, 1973, he accepted a record 510 consecutive outfield chances without an error.
