On April 25 1948, Larry Doby ties a major league record by striking out five times in one game. The Indians’ right fielder’s performance doesn’t hurt the Tribe when they beat Detroit at Briggs Stadium, 7-4. However, the fleet footed fly chaser still managed to grab his share of the limelight by contributing the most spectacular fielding play of the senes when he made a rally-stopping catch at the expense of Pinch Hitter Freddie Hutchinson in the seventh inning. It was m line drive to right field and Doby raced to the screen and leaped high in the air to spear the ball yvith one hand. As Doby trotted into the Cleveland dugout at the conclusion of the innings his Cleveland teammates stood up and applauded.  The Indians finished the day the only remaining undefeated team in the American League.
