Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Don Drysdale wins the 1962 Cy Young Award

 

 

On November 15, 1962 — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Don Drysdale wins the 1962 Cy Young Award, outpolling Jack Sanford of the San Francisco Giants with 14 of 18 votes. Drysdale goes 25-9 while Sanford went 24-7, the big difference between the two was the ERA 2.83 to 3.43 for Sanford. Drysdale will start an LA trend as the award will be and “LA” exclusive award for five straight seasons, In three out of the next four years the Cy Young will be won by his teammate Sandy Koufax and in 1964 LA Angel Dean Chance takes home the prize.
