In Philadelphia, 33,000 fans – the largest crowd to watch a game in Philadelphia since 1914 – sees Carl Mays win his 15th straight over the Mackmen as the Yankees prevail, 7 – 2, in the first game of a doubleheader. Bob Shawkey coasts home to a 13 – 7 win in the nitecap. Bob Meusel homers in each game.

1880 – Yale beats Worcester‚ 3 – 2‚ to raise the college team’s record against pros to 9-1 for the season. The Elis will lose 2 to Chicago and finish 10-3 versus pro clubs‚ including 2-2 vs. the National League.

2003 – A major brawl breaks out in a California League game between the Lancaster JetHawks and Inland Empire 66ers. In the 15th inning of the game, Josh Kranawetter hits Evel Bastida with a pitch. Bastida charges the mound and smashes Kranawetter in the back with his bat. He is charged with felony assault and suspended for the rest of the year. 16 players and a coach get three-game suspensions for the ensuing fight.
