Biography

MIKE FIORE was the starting first baseman for the Royals during their first year in 1969. He hit the first home run in the team’s history when he connected off Blue Moon Odom of the Oakland Athletics on April 13th. Fiore played 107 games, hit 12 home runs and batted .274. He walked 84 times which gave him an on base pct of .420. These may not be eye popping stats but they are in comparison to what he did the following three years. Fiore lost his starting job to Bob Oliver in 1970. With KC and Boston, Mike hit .164 in 1970. The next year he hit .177. With St Louis and San Diego in 1972 Fiore batted .063. That was the end of his Major League career. Fiore played in the minors through 1978. Mostly with the Rochester Red Wings.
