The day after the World Series ends, the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox play an exhibition game for 600 soldiers at Garden City, NY. Chicago wins, 6 – 4.
Mike LaCoss pitches a three-hitter and belts his first major league home run, off position player Dane Iorg, as the Giants pound the Padres, 18 – 1. Tying a record, 14 Giants get hits and 13 come around to score in the game. In his next at-bat, on June 29th, LaCoss will belt the second and last homer of what will be a 14-year career. That homer will be served up by Tom Browning of the Reds. Iorg gives up four runs in his inning, but does strike out CF Randy Kutcher.
June 23, 1986
Barry Bonds slugs three home runs and a double to lead the Giants to a 7 – 4 win over the Rockies. It is the 4th three-homer game of Bonds’s career.

1981 – Chicago’s Dennis Lamp loses his no-hitter when the Brewers’ Robin Yount leads off the 9th inning with a bloop double. Lamp settles for a one-hit 5 – 1 win.

In the bottom of the ninth with two outs at Wrigley Field, Ellis Burton hits a walk-off grand slam off Houston hurler Hal Woodeshick, giving the Cubs a dramatic 6-5 victory. Chicago had been trailing 5-2 before the switch-hitting center fielder hit the most memorable of his 17 career round-trippers.
