New York Yankees win their their second consecutive World Championship over the Dodgers

On October 17, 1978 — At Dodger Stadium the New York Yankees win their fourth straight game, 7 – 2, to clinch their twenty-second and second consecutive World Championship over the Los Angels Dodgers. Reggie Jackson homers and Bucky Dent & Brian Doyle got for 6-8 with 5 RBI’s. Catfish Hunter goes 7 strong and Rich Gossage finishes the last 2 innings for the victory. Don Sutton takes the loss his 3rd of the post season.

Brian Playoff hero Bucky Dent, who collects ten hits in the six-game series, is named the Fall Classic’s Most Valuable Player.
