On October 2, 1908 — On the last day of the season, future Hall of Famer Cleveland Naps Addie Joss hurls a perfect game, beating Ed Walsh and the Chicago White Sox, 1-0, the decision over Walsh in one of the greatest pitching duels in major league history. Joss strikes out only three batters, while Walsh fans 15. The Wisconsin right-hander’s performance kept the Naps’ hopes alive, but the Tigers edge Cleveland by a 1/2 game for the American League pennant.
