On October 31, 2011 — Only three days after leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series title, manager Tony LaRussa announces his retirement after 33 seasons as a major league skipper. He is second on the all-time list in games managed, behind Connie Mack, and third in wins behind Mack and John McGraw.
