On August 7, 2001 — Passing the mark of 68, established Christy Mathewson (with the Giants in 1913) and Randy Jones (with the Padres in 1976), Braves right-hander Greg Maddux sets the National League record for consecutive innings without allowing a walk as he pitches six innings without giving up a base on balls to extend the new record to 70 1/3 innings. The major league record with 84 1/3 innings was set in 1962 by A’s hurler Bill Fischer.
