Paul Molitor slugged a home run with two out in the ninth inning, to extend his hitting streak to 28 games

 

On August 13, 1987, At Memorial Stadium, Paul Molitor slugged a home run off Tom Niedenfuer with two out in the ninth inning, to make it a one-run ball game and extend his hitting streak to 28 games. The Brewers will still lose 5-4 to the Baltimore Orioles. Molitor has hit .422 (49-116) during his streak. After the game, Molitor said, “During a hitting streak it is a big advantage leading off because you get an extra at-bat.” Mike Boddiker started the game for the Orioles, Molitor faced Boddiker back in 1974 when they were both pitchers in the American Legion and lost 2-1. He also lost a game to him in College. Molitor added, “He still gets me out pretty regularly.”

Molitor’s streak would reach 39 before it came to an end. Molitor was elected to the HOF in 2004.
