On November 12, 1952 — Philadelphia A’s hurler Bobby Shantz (24-7, 2.48) is named as American League MVP by the baseball writers. The 27 year-old southpaw, who is named first on 16 of the 20 writers’ ballots, easily outdistances the runners-up Allie Reynolds and Mickey Mantle.
