On January 31 2002 — Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas is chosen as recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award.  Kalas. The fans knew soon enough. Kalas became a hugely popular figure for Phillies fans, teaming in the broadcast booth with the Phils’ Hall of Famer Richie Ashburn, their former center fielder. They worked together until Ashburn’s death in 1997
