On July 19, 1955 — At Forbes Field Pittsburgh Pirate hurler Vern Law pitches 18 innings vs the Milwaukee Braves, he leaves the game in 2-2 tie, giving way to Bob Friend. Law gave up just nine hits and fanning 12 in the 4+ hour marathon.

Friend allowed an earned run in the 19th when Chuck Tanner drove in Eddie Mathews. The Pirates however fought back plating 2 runs to win the game. Dale Long who had tied the game with a 1 out double, scores on a Frank Thomas single when Del Crandell fails to field the throw cleanly.
