Walter Johnson gives up the first home run he’s allowed since his debut in 1907

On June 29, 1909 At Hilltop Park, Pitching against the Highlanders, Walter Johnson gives up a solo homer to Ray Demmitt in the 7th, the first home run he’s allowed since his debut in 1907. Demmitt’s shot is the only score for New York, as Johnson beats them 3-1 for the second time in 10 days, improving his record to 8-8.

Johnson will finish the year 13-25 with a 2.22 ERA. The 2.22 ERA will be the highest until 1919 and 1 of 2 times his era will be over his first 13 seasons.
