Rawly was drafted by the Reds in the 3rd round of the 1969 amateur draft and signed with the Reds on June 12 of that year. He made his MLB debut with the eds on September 12, 1974.

He spent 3-1/2 seasons of his 8 MLB seasons with the Reds (1974 – 1977). As a Red, he pitched in 160 Games, all out of the bullpen.

His Reds record was 18-10 with 57 Saves and a great 2.40 ERA. He had 162 strikeouts to only 65 walks.

He may be best remembered for his 1975 World Series performance against the Boston Red Sox. He won games 2 and 3 and also earned a save in Game 5 as the Reds won the series in seven.

In 1976, he had his best season, going 11-5 in relief with a 2.06 earned run average. He also led the league in saves and won the NL Fireman of the Year award.

In June of 1977, after a contract dispute, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for Doug Capilla.

He pitched for 6 different organizations in his 8 year career.
