Biography

He spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles, was an All-Star in 1981, twice finished 6th in the AL Cy Young Award voting (1980, 1983), and was a key member of the 1983 World Series champion Orioles. He is a member of the Orioles Hall of Fame.

In his 13-year career (1976-1988), Scott had 138 wins, 904 strikeouts, 23 shutouts, & 3.99 ERA.

A curveballing control specialist with an outstanding pickoff move, McGregor was a prize obtained by Baltimore in a 10-player deal with the Yankees on June 15, 1976. One of the winningest pitchers of the 1980s, he joined Mike Flanagan as the lefthanders in Baltimore’s starting rotation in 1978. The next year McGregor won the deciding game of the LCS, but lost Game Seven of the World Series on Willie Stargell’s dramatic home run. In 1980 McGregor reached 20 wins on the final day of the season. He rebounded from injuries in 1982 to lead Baltimore starters in wins (18), percentage (.720), starts (36), complete games (12), and innings pitched (260) in 1983. He won the fifth, and final, game of the World Series with a five-hit, 5-0 shutout of the Phillies. From 1978 to 1985, McGregor was the only major league pitcher to finish with a winning record each season. He was New York’s first pick in the June 1972 draft and a teammate of George Brett at El Segundo High School.
