Needing only 108 pitches, Kevin Millwood becomes the ninth pitcher in Phillies’ history to throw a no-hitter when he keeps the NL-West leaders Giants hitless. The last franchise no-no before Millwood’s 1-0 masterpiece was thrown by Tommy Greene in 1991.
2003 – Due to a conflict with the major league schedule, the annual Hall of Fame Game which has been held the day after Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will take place on a different weekend for the first time in the Hall’s history. The game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Devil Rays is scheduled for June 16th, with the Hall of Fame induction taking place on July 27th.

The Phillies defeat the Reds, 5 – 4, despite a grand slam by Cincinnati OF Alex Ochoa. Ochoa’s blast is the 142nd slam of the season, setting a new major league record. The Oakland A’s have hit 11, one shy of the record shared by the Braves (1997) and Indians (1999).
