1889 – A two-run single by Dick Johnston in the 10th inning gives Boston a 4 – 2 win over the Quakers. The win is the 9th in a row and 16th out of 17 for the Beaneaters‚ who lead 2nd place Philadelphia by 5 1/2 games.
1889 – The Philadelphia Quakers head for Jacksonville, Florida, for spring training. No other major league clubs will train in the Deep South this season.
The Indianapolis Hoosiers lineup for their home game against the Philadelphia Quakers has the pitcher Lev Shreve batting eighth and the catcher John “Tug” Arundel ninth. At one point in the game Arundel batted ahead of Shreve and John Valentine correctly called Shreve out.
1882 – Abraham Mills is elected president of the National League. The league replaces the Troy Trojans and Worcester Ruby Legs with the New York Gothams and Philadelphia Quakers, respectively.
