Texas P Nolan Ryan is ejected from a game for the first time in his 26-year career

On August 6, 1992 — Texas Rangers Pitcher Nolan Ryan is ejected from a game for the first time in his 26-year career, by getting tossed by Richie Garcia after hitting Oakland’s Willie Wilson with a pitch.

Ryan (5-5) struck out 12 through seven and two-third innings.

The game was interrupted for nearly 10 minutes in the eighth inning when Ryan was ejected for hitting Willie Wilson in the leg with a pitch. Both benches emptied and booing fans littered the field with cups and food wrappers. Wilson and Ryan had engaged in a brief shouting match after Wilson’s seventh-inning triple off the center-field wall. Wilson will score on Jerry Browne’s two-run double.

In the sixth inning, Jose Canseco was ejected after arguing about his third strikeout of the game.

“Willie seems to have a problem,” Ryan said. “He thinks he can scream obscenities all game and if someone says something back, he wants to get a reaction from the ump.”

Wilson, who accused Ryan of shouting an obscenity at him before he hit his triple, said he expected to be hit in his next at-bat.

“I knew he was going to hit me. I just didn’t know what pitch,” Wilson said. “He’s always done that. He stares people down, he walks around the mound, he just tries to intimidate everybody.

“This is his country, his town, his stadium. He’s not a legend in my mind.”
